THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Danny's Doodles

This is going to be a Banner Year for TASSD as we celebrate 35 years of existence. It is also special for me as your President that I live in the city in which it began 35 years ago with our first Round-Up happening in Lubbock. Texas. It is my responsibility to help make this a great year for our beloved association, of which I try to do my best.

This is a time of many challenges for our world, our jobs, our homes and even our square dance association. In the face of these challenges TASSD has to remain focused and committed to meeting the needs of the single square dancers-the very traits that made us who we are. While recognition is a good thing, it would be a mistake to expect our past accomplishments to ensure our future success. What do we do? While we are proud of our 35 year history, today's dancers are more interested in what we're doing for them right now. That's why, in the weeks (and years) ahead, we'll work with greater focus to mitigate (make less severe, less rigorous, or less painful) the effects of our society, whether it is the high cost of gasoline, lodging or just plain expensive to operate as an association. We must be prepared for anything, even events outside our control. So again what do we do?

First we have to manage the association we have effectively while aggressively seeking new ways to keep growing and expanding TASSD. Second we're in an association where every penny must count. We will have to offer competitive benefits to our membership. Sometimes we will have to change something that we have done a certain way for a long time. For instance, in times past we've had single clubs as the host for our Round-Ups.. .this may be a thing of the past. Finally, there's something magical abut the energy transmitted between human relationships and we are fortunate to have in our association those "team" members that want to see TASSD continue to grow and exist. It's not easy, nor does it always come naturally, but it's the key to success. The FUTURE is ours to CREATE, and EACH of US can play a part. THANKS for ALL THAT YOU DO, and let's KEEP WORKING HARD! Be Happy and Keep Dancing, See You In A Square Soon!
